Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, continuous with stem, 20-30 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 3-7 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present or absent (flowers sessile), 5-8 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 2-4 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla multicoloured, mostly pink, red or blue, with some pink, red or blue spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 3-4 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 2.5-3 mm long, auriculate, keel 2.5-3.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen. Fruit indehiscent and not splitting into sections, 10-15 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in February, March and April. Occurs in the Northern Botanical Province, in the Northern Kimberley and Central Kimberley IBRA regions.
