Erect perennial, herb or shrub, 0.2-1.5(-2) m high. Fl. yellow/orange, Mar to Dec. Variety of soils. Often near watercourses.

Herb or shrub. Stems hairy. Leaves 20-80 mm long, 5-25 mm wide, not lobed; margins serrate; indumentum present, with stellate hairs; stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 3-15 mm long. Perianth clearly of two whorls (calyx and corolla), the corolla obvious and prominent. Pedicel absent (flower sessile). Calyx green, 4.5-5 mm long, the lobes fused less than half their length, stellate hairs present. Corolla yellow or orange, 6-7 mm long, glabrous. Stamens many, free and inserted at the base of the ovary; filaments present, 0-0.2 mm long; anthers 0.6-1 mm long. Ovary hairs and scales absent (ovary quite glabrous); style 1, with a lobed or capitate stigma, 0.8-1 mm long, with one style branches or lobes, mostly glabrous. Flowering time April, May, June, July or September.
