Erect to spreading annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.05-0.15 m high, spikelets in a simple umbel or rarely solitary; stamens 3; nuts transversely ridged. Fl. brown, Feb to Apr. Red loam, sand, brown clay. Along watercourses, in depressions, rockholes.
