Tufted, short-lived perennial or annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), (0.01-)0.05-0.4 m high, fruiting axis narrowly to broadly winged; glumes 2-4 mm long, mucronate; stamens 3. Fl. brown-red, Apr to Nov. Clayey sand, red clay-loam. Along watercourses, on floodplains, in claypans and other damp habitats.
