Erect, straggling or climbing shrub, 0.3-1.5 m high. Fl. yellow & orange & red/pink, Jul to Dec. Grey-brown sandy gravel, red-brown sandy loam or clay, over granite or laterite. Near rock outcrops, on hills, along streams and watercourses, winter-wet flats.
Scientific Description
Erect, prostrate,spreading or scrambling or twining or climbing plants, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 20-80 mm long, 8-27 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins dentate; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Pedicel present, 4-5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent or present but early deciduous, 1-1.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 5-7.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 12-16 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, pink, red or orange, with some yellow, pink, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 10-12 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 9-10.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 8.6-10 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.2-0.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3-5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 5-6.2 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in July, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Warren and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
