Scientific Description

Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 7-14 mm long, 0.8-1.8 mm wide, glabrous, strongly recurved, appearing terete but with one or two grooves below; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Pedicel present, 1-2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent or present but early deciduous, 0.9-1 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 3.5-4.2 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8-10 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8-9.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6.2-8 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.3-0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3.5-5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 4-6 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in May, June, July, August, September and October. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Carnarvon, Gascoyne, Yalgoo, Murchison, Coolgardie, Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
