Erect, broom-like shrub, 0.2-1 m high. Fl. yellow & orange & red, Aug to Nov. Yellow/red sandy soils. Sandplains, sandhills.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), alternate, not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, 1.5-2; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 3.4-4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1-1.8 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 7.5-8 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9.5-11 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 6-7 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6.5-7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.6-0.7 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base) or united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 5-8 mm long. Ovary hairy or glandular; style 6.5-9 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 7-7.2 mm long, 5-8 mm wide, stipitate or sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in August, September, October and November. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Carnarvon, Yalgoo, Geraldton Sandplains and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA regions.
