Erect, prickly shrub, 1.2-3 m high. Fl. red & orange, Aug to Oct. Yellow sand, sandy loam. Undulating areas.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, spiny at least in part, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), alternate, not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, 1-3; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1-2 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 9-10 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9-13 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7.5-8.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 7.4-8.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 10.5-11 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.8-0.9 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7-9 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 10-11.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, flattened at apex. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate or sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August, September and October. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Yalgoo, Murchison and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA regions.
