Erect, spindly annual, herb, 0.2-0.6 m high. Fl. yellow/orange & red, Apr to Oct. Sandy soils, clay, stony skeletal soils, granite, sandstone. Rocky sites, hills, plains, river banks, drainage lines & irrigated areas.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 25-110 mm long, 4-15 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 8-10 mm long, without glands, ribbed. Pedicel present, 7-10 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 7-10 mm long, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Corolla multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; standard 5-6 mm long, not auriculate, wings 4-5 mm long, not auriculate. Fruit indehiscent and splitting into sections (schizocarps), sessile or subsessile, constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in April, May, June, July, August, September and October. Occurs in the Northern and Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Pilbara, Carnarvon, Northern Kimberley, Victoria Bonaparte, Central Kimberley, Ord-Victorian-Plain, Tanami and Dampierland IBRA regions.
