Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling or twining or climbing plants, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands present. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 35-50 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with recurved margins; margins dentate; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands present. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 1.5-6.5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 0.5-1.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 6-8 mm long, accrescent (enlarged in fruit), hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands present. Corolla 6-9 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink, red or purple, with some pink, red or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 5-6 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 5.5-6 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-6.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.2-0.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 4.2-4.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 4.5-5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit indehiscent and splitting into sections (schizocarps), 5-6 mm long, 4-4.5 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, glabrous, not beaked. Flowers in September, October and November. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Pilbara, Carnarvon, Central Ranges, Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt and Mallee IBRA regions.
