Perennial, herb or shrub, 0.15-0.5 m high. Fl. purple, Apr to May. Red sand. Sandstone hills.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like) or herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 6-12 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands present. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 4 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present or absent (flowers sessile), 0.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 7-8 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6-8 mm long, uniformly coloured, purple; claws absent; standard 6.5-7.6 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6-7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 5-6.4 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 6-8 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit indehiscent and splitting into sections (schizocarps), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in April and May. Occurs in the Northern and Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Northern Kimberley, Victoria Bonaparte, Central Kimberley, Ord-Victorian-Plain and Tanami IBRA regions.
