Straggling shrub, to 3 m high. Fl. purple-brown, Aug to Oct. Red sand, gravelly soils. Stony flats & slopes, pindan country.
Scientific Description
Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands present. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 35-80 mm long, 10-25 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands present. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 5-9 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 4.5-5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 9-10 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribbed; pustules or glands present. Corolla 10-12 mm long, multicoloured, mostly brown or purple, with some brown or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 10-10.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 9-10 mm long, not auriculate, keel 9-10 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 10-11 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, bearded (with a tuft of hairs at apex), terete. Fruit indehiscent and splitting into sections (schizocarps), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August, September and October. Occurs in the Northern and Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Pilbara, Carnarvon, Gascoyne and Dampierland IBRA regions.
