Erect, spreading, soft-wooded shrub, 0.06-0.3 m high. Fl. yellow, Aug to Dec. Sand, clayey sand, loamy clay, granite, laterite, dolerite, limestone. Outcrops, flat plains, slopes, near rivers, disturbed areas.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 12-25 mm long, 4-15 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 4.5-5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 28-40 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent. Calyx 10-13 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 15-20 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 13-19 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 13-15 mm long, not auriculate, keel 12-14 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten; anthers 1-1.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 11-13 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 14-17 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Carnarvon, Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Warren, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
