Erect or semi-prostrate perennial, herb or shrub, 0.2-0.5(-0.7) m high. Fl. pink-red, Mar to Jul. Clay or basalt soils.
Scientific Description
Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, opposite, not continuous with stem, 25-70 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present but early deciduous ( only visible on youngest leaves ), 3-3.5 mm long, without glands, ribbed. Pedicel present, 1.5-2.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 4.5-6.2 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6.5-8 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or red, with some pink or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 5-7.8 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 4-4.7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-6 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 4.5-6 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 7-7.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, bearded (with a tuft of hairs at apex), terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in March, April, May, June and July. Occurs in the Northern Botanical Province, in the Northern Kimberley, Victoria Bonaparte, Central Kimberley and Ord-Victorian-Plain IBRA regions.
