Low, caespitose shrub, 0.15-0.6 m high, inflorescences basal. Fl. red, May to Dec or Jan. Red sand, red loam. Sandplains, sand dunes.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, terete; tubercles absent, 1-5; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1.5-3.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 23-25 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 25-29 mm long, uniformly coloured, red; claws absent; standard 22-29 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 22-23 mm long, not auriculate, keel 22-29 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 4-6.8 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 20-35 mm long. Ovary glabrous; style 24 mm long glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in January, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Great Sandy Desert, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Little Sandy Desert, Gibson Desert, Murchison, Great Victorian Desert, Central Kimberley, Tanami and Coolgardie IBRA regions.
