Loosely caespitose perennial, grass-like or herb, 0.4-1 m high, with bulbous woolly base. Fl. purple, Dec or Jan to May or Sep to Oct. Red or calcareous sand, clay. Dunes, sandplains, creeklines, rocky hills, quartzite oucrops.
